Nicaragua - Hurricane Felix

Rehabilitation

Hurricane Felix caused widespread damage to homes, crops and infrastructure throughout most of Nicaragua, but especially in the Northern Atlantic Autonomous Region (RAAN). The hurricane’s winds and rainfall delivered a fatal blow to the rice harvest that typically begins in September.

Delivering Aid

CRWRF, in partnership with CRWRC and the local organizaton Accion Medica Cristiana (AMC), provided funds for a pilot project to improve food security for the indigenous Miskitos population. The thrust of the project was to initiate dry season agriculture, enabling them to grow crops away from their traditional low lying, flood prone farmlands.   Read about progress in this Interim Report (394KB pdf).

The project has now been completed. Here is the Final Report (2.2MB pff).
