Burma/Myanmar - Cyclone Nargis

Burma Emergency Relief(May 2008)

Massive relief efforts will be needed in the wake of the devastations caused by cyclone Nargis in Burma.  Millions of lives have been affected.  The numbers of dead, missing, and injured are staggering.  Millions have become homeless, and are in need of immediate aid.  Initially the most pressing needs are for medical aid, food, safe drinking water, and temporary shelter.  In the longer term, much will be required for rehabilitation.

Devastation

- Update July 1, 2008 - As an immediated response for Myanmar, CRWRF has contributed $30,000 towards a partnership project with CRWRC and the Canadian Food Grains Bank (CFGB), to deliver emergency daily food supplies of rice, beans, oil and salt, to 2500 families in the Ayeyarwaddy Delta region in South-West Myanmar, one of the most devastated areas.  Our funding was eligible for 4:1 matching funding from CFGB.

We are considering a follow-up project with the same partners to provide funds for rehabilation work (seeds, tools, etc.) in the months to come.
